Namyangju_Museum of Art and Design Collection Koo House

House-like museum made up of the director's 30-year collection including

Nakashima's bench and Prouve's bed

Another destination that you should not miss in Munho-ri is Koo House that opened in July 2016. It is a museum of art and design that exhibits the 30-year collection of Director Jeong Sun Koo, who is the representative of Design Focus. It pursues a home-like museum concept. Each exhibition room is designed with a motif of a nursery, study room, living room, bedroom, etc., and art works and furniture on display are harmonized with the theme of each space.

In the study room with a high ceiling open up to the second floor, there is a bench designed by George Nakashima. The guest room is furnished with a bed, chairs and lamps designed by French designer Jean Prouve in the 1930s. The living room exhibits witty pop art works by various artists including Robert Indiana and Kiki Smith. The bathroom also has an artistic mood. Next to the toilet, a sculpture of a naked man, which is a work by Chinese artist Yi Ying Ping, sits crouched. From the front gate to the kitchen, the stairs, and the attic, the entire house is a huge exhibition hall.

Koo House has a very large area for being a "house." The two-story building, which is located on a large 1,400 square meter lot, has 10 exhibition rooms. Director Koo’s collection boasts great artistic value. It includes the works of the most notable artists these days including Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, William Kentridge, Gao Lei, and Do Ho Suh. The house where these works live was designed by architect Min Seok Cho.
