Yeoncheon_Art Zoo

Experiential farm where you can reflect on the symbiosis of humans and animals

This is not your typical experiential farm where you can touch some animals a few times, take pictures of them, and then leave. Once you enter Art Zoo, you will spend at least an hour there, learning how humans and animals live together.

When the owner, Seong Gyo-seok, bring meal worms (edible insects as food) to a huge aviary where 30 kinds of chickens, pheasants, turkeys, peacocks, and rabbits live together, even those who are far away from the wires quickly gather around the feed. Chickens try to eat as much as possible when they see the bugs, and rabbits do their best to get one more piece of Chinese cabbage. Although there is plenty of feed in the aviary, they prefer fresh feed. Seong says that modern people have forgotten the importance of eating well and that we can learn from these animals.

Art Zoo places value on educational experiences. Visitors listening to the guide while observing the animals in the aviary learn that rabbit urine has ingredients that prevent the chicken from getting sick. They also learn how different herbivorous and carnivorous animals are, comparing the eyes of a goat with those of a cat.

We do not know how the meat we eat every day is produced and brought to our tables. Art Zoo also has a place to experience why edible snails and edible meal worms can be an alternative to traditional meat culture. There is also a "Dog House” where visitors can leave their dogs

 Spiders are found in every corner of the farm. The employees remove spider webs each morning, but they soon reappear. Seong believes that this can also be part of the educational experience. If you use pesticide to kill spiders, you will never find that spiders are beneficial to humans as they eat insecticidal insects such as mosquitoes and horseflies.

 Art Zoo holds a concert each weekend evening. It is a small party at the farm where Seong plays the guitar and his daughter, who majored in vocal music, sings.
