Goyang_Taco House

The flavors of Latin America filled in tortillas

While walking around at the Latin American Cultural Center Museum, make a pit stop if you see a building whose one side is entirely made of glass and an outdoor terrace with many parasols.

It is a restaurant called Taco House selling tacos that can be eaten in a simple, convenient way.

It has two dishes on its menu: Quesadilla made by placing cheese, vegetables, and meat on a tortilla and folding it in half, and Alambre, a simple food featuring beef and vegetables. Both of them are plated with nachos and salsa sauce. People of all ages would love their tastes and can enjoy the food in a convenient manner.

Traditionally, tortilla is made by pressing a dough on a flat stone plate known as “metate”. If you visit certain countryside villages in Latin America, you can still see how the villagers make tortillas on their own. Metate, the device used to produce tortilla, is on display at the Latin American Cultural Center Museum. In addition to metate made of either wood or stone, bats used to press tortilla and a painting of a woman making tortilla can be seen at the museum, which help you easily understand how important tortilla is in the Latin America.

The Taco House building was originally a vacation home of an ambassador couple who operated the Latin American Cultural Center Museum. As a hobby, they used to store here various antiques from the Latin American region, which led to foundation of a cultural center. Over a long period of time, the museum, gallery, and chapel were established in 1994, 1997 and 2011, respectively, and, as a great volume of artworks began to fill the spaces, today’s Latin American Cultural Center Museum where the Latin American atmosphere can be felt was born.
