Gapyeong_Edelweiss

A small Swiss village encountered in Gapyeong

A beautiful village that seems to only exist in fairy tales, “Edelweiss” is a theme park inspired by a small village festival in Switzerland.

The castle with a sharp tower seen upon the arrival at Edelweiss gives a strong first impression of the Swiss village and, once you walk past Coffee Museum, a carpenter’s shop, and a flower garden, you reach the main street of Edelweiss.

The street surrounded by 32 distinct Swiss-style structure has great photo spots for all at which Koreans and foreigners alike crawl along as they are busy taking pictures. The trick arts painted on the ground are another factor that slows down the visitors’ pace.

The reason that Edelweiss, though it is a theme park, does not feel like a virtual space is the presence of residents who actually live here. The buildings that they dwell in are private properties and, thus, cannot be accessed but visitors may enter other buildings such as gallery, museum, exhibition, themed space, and photo zones.

Cheese Museum

At <Cheese Museum>, you can learn about the three types of cheese, Emmental, Appenzeller and Gruyère, from Switzerland, the home of cheese, and <Chocolate Museum> tells the story of chocolate narrated by Charlie from the film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and teaches the history from cacao to chocolate. You may make a wish by hanging a message on the wish tree at <Love Proposal Hall>, a place from which love springs as much as the beautiful streets.

At <Swiss Theme Hall>, keywords that symbolize Switzerland, such as express train travel, hot-air balloons, alpenhorn, and Matterhorn, are encountered and, at <Bern Bear Hall>, let’s take pictures while wearing the costume and mask of a Swiss royal guard. <Wine Museum> exhibits the wine manufacturing process and different types of wine that celebrities loved whereas <Santa Village> is where the childhood dream of year-round Christmas comes true.

How much of Switzerland have I known? Looking through museums and theme halls inside the facility, I get to learn new things about food, culture and history of Switzerland closely connected to our daily lives.

Moreover, a variety of experience programs on chocolate, coffee, cheese, and air fresheners for group tourists are offered, making it an experiential theme park beyond mere viewing.

Whenever you miss beautiful town and buildings of Switzerland, why don’t you visit “Edelweiss”, the closest Swiss village from my home?
