Yangju_Hwangbaengi Waterside Trail

Thirst for green

There are days when I just want everything around me to be green and wish to listen to birds chirping and see a clear sky rather than music and the sound of TV. The color of fatigue for those who live in a gray city would be dull.

Located in Hwangbang-ri, Yangju, Hwangbaengi Waterside Trail is sufficient to color us green. Hwangbaengi is an old name of Hwangbang-ri. The trail is 1.6-km in length and takes about 1 hour with a leisure pace. It also features decked stairs at the entrance of the trail for a comfortable walk.

Along the trail, numerous rest areas including a birch tree forest, green forest experience center and a reservoir observation deck are set up from which you can enjoy the nature.

As I walked past the house of Mr. Jo So-ang and entered the trail, green leaves filled with life and vigor and the earth that marks its territory for each step I take greeted me. A smile was naturally put on my face as I enjoyed a cool, pleasant breeze below the trees that cover the sunlight, making me feel as if I have become a part of this place, at least temporarily.

Inhaling and exhaling repeatedly for mouthfuls of phytoncides coming out of the trees gradually removed the stress I have had. I continued to walk while listening the tune of the nature with my phone put away in my bag before reaching a reservoir next to a paved road that connects the trail and the birch tree forest. I stopped for a second, gazed at the sparkling ripples generating on quietly flowing water, and headed to the birch tree forest to quench the remainder of my thirst for green.
