Direction, not speed

The origin story of Misik is just like a story in TV show series. For anything, direction, not speed, is important. The owner of Misik used to farm and looked to promote boiled doenjang, or soybean paste, as a business item but, after things went awry, started a restaurant, which had never been on his mind.

Thanks to this turn of events, however, he found his hidden cooking skills. It was a moment when misfortune turned into luck. Though he had never taken cooking seriously before, he had effortlessly created the current lineup of dishes after learning how to make a few side dishes.

As his innate talents shine brightly, he runs Misik as a restaurant generating several hundred million won in sales every year. Misik operates shuttle buses, offering a convenient service that picks up customers at Dongducheon and Soyosan Stations and drops them off back at the station after they dine at the restaurant.

Ssambap, or leaf-wrapped rice, is one of the most popular dishes at Misik. Although it is cumbersome for customers to cook meat on their own, the dish also contains a message that it will not recycle the meat. While the meat was being cooked, I ate the side dishes to temporarily satisfy my starving stomach. After putting a couple pieces of cooked meat onto a vegetable wrap, I placed it into my mouth before preparing another one.

The side dishes of injeolmi, tofu and cheonggukjang are still cooked by the owner himself even after the restaurant has become quite successful. There is a self-bar where unlimited vegetable wraps and kimchi may be served by yourself. The owner said that he wants to continue to produce genuine and original doenjang as he does now. I do not think a healthier and more sincere meal can be had anywhere else.
