National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, 'Curator Exhibition Tour' video presented on YouTube

National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA, Director Youn Bum-mo) offers various video content, such as a ‘Curator Exhibition Tour’ video for easy and convenient viewing of the art museum’s exhibitions, anytime, anywhere, through its YouTube channel (youtube.com/MMCAKorea).

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art was closed from February 24 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to help guarantee visitor safety. As the entire nation’s culture and art activities have decreased due to COVID-19, the ‘Curator Exhibition Tour’ video of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art has been spotlighted as a convenient method to view exhibitions at home.

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art has been broadcasting ‘Curator Exhibition Tour' videos on YouTube since 2019. In each of the tour videos, the curator who has planned the exhibition visits the exhibition hall and explains artworks in a vivid and interesting way, which takes about 30 minutes to an hour. The videos are provided with Korean and English subtitles for viewer to conveniently watch even past exhibitions at anytime, from anywhere. Currently, viewers can watch a total of 10 exhibition tour videos, including <Plaza: Art & Society 1900-2019>, <Deoksugung Palace – Seoul Outdoor Project: Remembered Future>, and others. The Deoksugung Palace exhibition <Calligraphy in Art Museum: Korean Modern & Contemporary Calligraphy>, which opens this year, will also provide an exhibition tour soon. The < <Reconstruction of Korean Craft Horizon 5070> exhibition to be held in the Gwacheon Pavilion in the second half of the year will be produced and presented in a VR video.

In addition to the curator exhibition tour, educational and lecture videos on various topics, such as the “Lecture on Collections in 10 minutes,” Academy on the History of Korean Modern and Contemporary Art,” interviews with artists participating in <Artists of the Year Award 2019>, and broadcasted videos of 'International Symposium on Art Museum Education’ held in 2019, can be watched on the YouTube channel.

Also, you can search for and browse through various art museum information such as art museum research and collections, including the ‘MMCA Newsletter” that organizes information such as the art museum’s major exhibitions and cultural events, on the website of National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (mmca.go.kr). The newsletter is sent by email after registering your email address at the website (regularly delivered on the 1st and 15th of each month). From the ‘Publication’ of the website, you can download research collections on modern/contemporary art, media art, and conservation science and the chronology of art museum. In ‘Collection’, you can search and browse 8,477 items of the art museum’s collections and view 1,182 of them in high quality.

You can also see street view videos of National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Gwacheon, Seoul and Deoksugung Palace Exhibition Hall from ‘Google Art & Culture,’ an online search service provided by Google, and a Cheongju Hall Exhibition Hall video will be available soon (artsandculture.google.com).

Director Youn Bum-mo of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art said, “It is difficult to visit art museums in person due to COVID-19, but we will provide a stronger service for Korean and overseas visitors to enjoy the exhibitions in real-time and be impressed and inspired by art, online, at home.
