The Jebudo Art Park, the center of the culture and art of Gyeonggi Bay, finished its four-year organization and test operations, and its management will be transferred to the Hwaseong City Cultural Foundation. The Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation (President, Kang Heon), as part of Gyeonggi Bay Eco-Museum projects, started in 2016 and promoted the Jebudo Island Culture and Art Island project ▲Organization and operation of the Jebudo Art Park, ▲Public Design of beachside promenades and ▲Jebudo Island Water Walk. This repaired old and unnecessary facilities of Jebudo Island and installed beautiful public facilities, containing local information and promoting local identity, leading the way for the recovery of the landscape of Jebudo Island.

The Jebudo Art Park was built by using six containers. It answers to the thirst of Jebudo Island community for a proper cultural space, and it became a nexus for communication between residents and tourists. Also, by using this space, the daily cultural activities of Jebudo Island residents are now possible. It also enables artists of various genres to communicate with tourists.

As a result, the Jebudo Art Park received the Red Dot Design Award’s main prize in 2017 and the IDEA Design Award Silver Medal in 2018. Also, Jebudo Island Received the Korea Public Design Grand Prize and was selected as one of the top ten Gyeonggi tourist attractions. The increase of tourists was also noticeable. The number of tourists increased by 20%, compared to the period prior to the creation of Jebudo Art Park. This naturally contributed to development of local commercial areas.

Now, the Jebudo Art Park will become localized under the management of the Hwaseong City Cultural Foundation, which will help the development of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, a large-scale cultural foundation. The aim is to develop a life zone called Jebudo Island. As space to express the beautiful island of Gyeonggi Bay through art, the Jebudo Art Park should be very successful.

A source from the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation said, “in the future, the Gyeonggi Bay Eco-Museum project will be expanded to Gimpo and Pyeongtaek, beyond Hwaseong, Ansan and Siheung, in order to explore the historical culture of Gyeonggi Bay, beautify Gyeonggi Bay even more than it already is, and continue art projects, to add more value to local cultural life.”
