《A Series of the People Related to Bukhansanseong Fortress》, the 4th volume of the historical records that have now been published, contains the people associated with the fortification, and the maintenance and management of Bukhansanseong Fortress. This book covers ‘Appendix of the Fortification of Bukhansanseong Fortress,’ in order to see the names of all of the people directly involved in the fortress fortification, including Sukjong, the 19th King of the Joseon Dynasty, who decided to push ahead with the work of reconstructing Bukhansanseong Fortress, being aware of its urgent necessity, since the outbreak of the Japanese Invasion against Korea in 1592 and Manchu Invasion against Korea in 1636. In this book, there are the descriptions about the people, for example, the Commander of the Northern Approaches, Military Commander and Military Leader, who had jurisdiction over Bukhansanseong Fortress since the fortress was originally built. Also, this book records data about people in relation to twenty eight Memorial Stones (Stone for praying for officials’ benign rulership) concentrated around Sanyeongru Pavilion, one of eight attractions of Bukhansan, and quotes the claims of professionals, for a better understanding about the corresponding subject matter.

The aim of the publishing project regarding the historical records of Bukhansanseong Fortress is to provide a systemic academic research foundation for Bukhansanseong Fortress, and to secure the preliminary data necessary for the fortress’ becoming one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. In 2017, the 1st volume of 《A Collection of Antique Maps. Photos》was published. In 2018, the 2nd volume of 《The Reconsideration of Bukhanseong Fortress》 and the 3rd volume of 《A Study on the Heritage of Bukhansanseong Fortress 》were published in a series.

Director Jang Deokho of the Gyeonggi Institute of Cultural Properties said, “Publishing a series about the people related to Bukhansanseong Fortress has achievement in finding out the names of the people related to the fortress, and events that people already knew about and had experienced.” He emphasized the necessity for a great deal of constant research about Bukhansanseong Fortress.
