To promote culture and art activities that declined due to COVID-19 and support children’s leisure time, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA, Director Youn Bum-mo) will release five online education programs on the children’s art museum that can be watched at home sequentially on its website (mmca.go.kr) and YouTube channel (youtube.com/MMCAKorea) every Wednesday and Thursday from April 1, 2020.

<“Visiting Art Museum at Home” for Children>, which consists of four artists Marcel Duchamp, Seo-bo Park, Kyu-cheol Ahn, and Jeong-hwa Choi, introduces the world of artists’ artworks and art activities to be watched online at children’s level (6-13 years old). The videos are designed to make modern art easy and fun to understand. In addition, the program provides 5 videos including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art for Children and Gwacheon pre-guide <Nice to Meet You>.

The first release 'Seo-bo Park' will help understand the world of his artwork, work that reflects nature's colors, such as “air color” and “maple color”, with activities to express one’s “air colors” at home. The 'Marcel Duchamp' edition, which will be released afterwards, is a workshop to appreciate ready-made artwork of Marcel Duchamp, who created the concept in which everyday objects can become artworks, and to create one's ready-made works. The 'Kyu-cheol Ahn' edition focuses on his artwork, <The Man's Bag>, to dive into a wing-shaped special bag and 11 related stories in the drawing, while viewers imagine their stories. <The Man's Bag> can be viewed at the Children's Art Museum <#To See> in National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon (March 27, 2019 – May 5, 2020) until May 5th. Finally, in the 'Jeong-hwa Choi' edition, viewers will see the artist's colorful and splendid modern artwork, work that gives meaning to objects in everyday life and sublimates them into art, as well as discover art in everyday life by stacking and arranging small and ordinary objects.

Director Youn Bum-mo of National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art said “It is extremely difficult to visit art museums due to COVID-19, but the ‘Visiting Art Museum at Home’ will give comfort and hope to people. We will continue to carry out online education programs for children, putting all effort into make children experience modern art and become acquainted with art museums."
