The Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation (President, Kang Heon) and the Center for Gyeonggi Studies promote regional studies in 2020.

As local government systems were recently established, there are more and more people who look to the present while their interest in history, culture, nature and environment grows. They know about the past and this helps them to think about the future through local studies. There are also many people trying to establish a regional identity by acquiring knowledge about where they live.

The Center for Gyeonggi Studies has studied the history and culture of Gyeonggi-do for a long time, and it will promote multi-angular regional studies in addition to research. Also, in line with promotion of northern area projects, which are a major foundation of policies of the institution, a significant number of major 2020 projects will be carried out in the north.

The Center for Gyeonggi Studies, first, understands that establishment of ‘local identity’ will become a huge cornerstone for future development and plans to proactively uncover the historic and cultural foundations of 31 cities and counties, as well as Gyeonggi-do at large, and ensure joint collaborative projects. ▲ is a popular education program carried out in each locality in collaboration with city and county cultural institutions.   Also, the center will keep researching and surveying within Gyeonggi-do. ▲The project, which has published 20 reports since 2011, will take place in Dongducheon, Bucheon and Siheung. This project will examine and record the development of Gyeonggi-do. ▲It also promotes .

The Center has been involved in publications designed to spread and share its performance. ▲The series of overseeing history and culture at large, ▲The series, is where people can study local history at schools, ▲ is also to be published and shared this year, which is a periodical for sharing and communicating local studies.

From 2020, ▲ to obtain basic materials on regional studies and test operations took place. This was to ensure that the Center can play a role as a hub of information relevant to Gyeonggi-do regional studies.

▶ The Center for Gyeonggi Studies is to cover not only survey and research, but also expansion for the use, support and networking of regional studies.

The Center for Gyeonggi Studies will facilitate regional studies and diversify businesses. This will be a cornerstone not only for survey and research but also for expansion to various applications for provincial residents, city-county related networks, and support for regional research. The orientation of the center is likely to be expanded to ‘Gyeonggi Studies Promotion’. Affiliation and collaboration will be strengthened to cover not only a large-scale locality focus on cultural areas but also studies on small areas and localities.

Lee Jihun, Director of the Center for Gyeonggi Studies said, “For a Gyeonggi-do with often un-celebrated local character and lack of localist perspectives, to develop for a future with a large population and significant resources, it is necessary to develop the province’s unique identity and the sense of community,” and went on, “we will aim at ① open, sustainable and future-oriented regional studies, ② residents’ participation in regional studies to build communities, and ③ practical regional studies for local facilitation and regeneration.
