Children who want to be friends with contemporary art should join us!

- MMCA Children's Museum of Art, 《Exciting Color Garden》-

National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA, Director Beom-mo Yoon) will hold a large-scale children's special exhibition ⟪Exciting Color Garden⟫ from July 22 (Wed) to February 28 (Sun), 2021 at MMCA, Gwacheon.

⟪Exciting Color Garden⟫ is the largest exhibition for children since the opening of the Gwacheon Hall in 1986 as a part of strengthening the functions of the Children's Museum since the inauguration of Director Yoon Bum-mo. The 2,645㎡ original exhibition room, which has been a collection and special exhibition space, is filled with new works by contemporary artists Yong-gwan Kim, Jin-song Kim, Ki-won Park, Mi-na Park, Gyo Baek, and Sook-jin Cho. A total of 11 works are presented, including 8 installation works and 3 painting series, allowing visitors to participate. Children can discover and experience various contemporary art through play while experiencing the works. The prototype exhibition room is divided into three main areas: exhibition space, experience space, and education space.

In the exhibition space, you can see a variety of works for children of 6 contemporary artists. <14 levels of achromatic color and green, blue, red, and black light sources> (2020) by Park Mina, who experiences the characteristics and principles of color, and <ROLYPOLY> by In-kyo Baek, where you can play in a forest full of colored twigs. (2020), <Round Square>(2020) by Yong-Gwan Kim, where you can freely use play tools that are free to use, stimulates children's hidden senses and provides a venue for proactively enjoying the exhibition. <The Sea>(2020) by Ki-won Park, where you can enjoy a rest in a space full of blue light, <Hide and Seek>(2020) Sook-jin Cho, where dozens of drums are stacked to create a space for reflection and play, and a slide with a familiar dog shape. Up to <A Dog with a Long Waist> (2020) by Jin-song Kim, we provide a time for children to find pleasure on their own through contemporary art.

In addition to the exhibition space where you can experience the works with your body, you can enjoy a leisurely viewing experience with the 'Unusual Imagination Sculpture', an experience space where you can create your own artwork with a digital sketchbook, and a shelter and book space for the whole family, including infants, children, parents and grandparents.

In 'Everyone's Garden', a separate educational space in the exhibition room, a regular education program is operated to express oneself in colors using various colored materials, and anyone can participate. Due to COVIS-19, we plan to run an online education program for visitors who are difficult to participate in the field, and provide a meeting with contemporary art that the general public as well as children with visual and hearing impairments can enjoy anytime, anywhere.

Director of MMCA, Beom-mo Yoon said, “Through the largest children's exhibition since the opening of Gwacheon in 1986, we hope that many children will be closer to contemporary art and have an opportunity to raise their dreams.” It will be reinforced with a central open space.”

As MMCA Seoul, Gwacheon, and Deoksugung reopen from July 22, this exhibition can be viewed free of charge with advance reservation at the Gwacheon Hall at the website of the museum.
