To prevent the spread of COVID-19, Gyeonggi Children's Museum (Director: Pyo Munsong) of Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation introduces <How Should We Have Fun?>. This is an activity book for children and families who are not sure what to do to have fun at this time, as TV, YouTube, and smartphone games are getting boring, with the delay of the first day of classes at preschool, elementary, middle, and high schools across the country.

This activity book was produced by Gyeonggi Children's Museum during a special exhibition <Let's Have Fun Together by Going Around the Neighborhood Three Times> last October. It contains 30 play activities recommended and explained by 3rd to 5th grade school children. The activity book not only includes classic games such as the 'Hide-and-Seek' or 'Freeze Tag' that the mom and dad’s generation used to play when they were young, but also 'Banana Hide-and-Seek' or 'Spider Play', which are newly-created variations by children, showing the changes and development of games.

Here are some of the fun games that 2-4 children can play inside the house or in an empty lot nearby with their parents.

1. Play inside the house!

A. (Rabbit) Picking Carrots

① Play rock, scissors, and paper to decide the tagger (rabbit).

② The rest of the people (carrots) lie on the floor with arms crossed with each other to make a circle.

③ The tagger catches and picks people who have become carrots!

④ From the people lying down, the person whose arms are released and selected by the tagger becomes the next tagger.

Tip: It is more fun to play this game with 3-4 people. Actively use the tickling technique.

B. Flock Marbles

① Draw a huge marble plate (square) on the floor.

② Place 6 small objects (backpacks, shoes, pencil cases, dolls, etc.) and several marbles on the plate.

③ After setting the starting line and placing the marbles, hit the marbles as if bouncing them off.

④ If you hit a small object, you get +1 point, and if you hit a ball, you get -1 point. Calculate all the points and the person who gets the most points wins.

Tip: Place a marble (-1 point) to make it difficult to hit small objects.

2. Play in an empty space near your house!

A. Dongaseu (Pork Cutlet) Game
① Play rock, scissors, and paper to decide who will go first.

② Draw a circle on the floor or place a hula hoop.

③ Check the order by shouting “Don-Gaseu” once from the first player. (“Don-Gaseu”: Players shout out “Don” to get in a circle in one foot and “Gaseu” to get out of the circle in two feet.

④ After checking the order, step on others’ foot outside the circle by shouting “Don-Gaseu” from the first player.

⑤ Anyone outside the circle can avoid the attack, and you’re out if you’re foot is stepped on by others!

⑥ The person remaining until the end wins.

Tip: When you get used to playing, attack with two feet twice by shouting “Don-Gaseu-Gaseu”.

B. Cross Game

① Play rock, scissors, and paper to decide who will go first.

② In order, jump forward four steps by one at a time while shouting out ‘Huh,’ ‘Soo’, ‘Ah’, ‘Bi’ at the starting point and stand with arms wide open like a scarecrow.

③ After the last person jumps four steps, return to the starting line within the four steps by shouting out ‘Huh,’ ‘Soo’, ‘Ah’, ‘Bi’ again from the first person who jumped, avoiding others.

④ If you bump into someone or fail to get back within four steps on the way back to starting line, FAIL!

Tip: Let's become a scarecrow with open arms in different shapes that can interfere the players trying to return to the starting line!
