Yangju_Jangheung Natural Arboretum

Onsaemiro

Onsaemiro is a Korean word that means "natural and unswerving," a suitable expression for Jangheung Natural Arboretum.

It was established over a 70,000-pyeong land primarily featuring nut pine trees over 100 years of age. It is being maintained to enable rest and therapeutic walks in the woods by preserving the nature as much as possible without damaging the form and vegetation of the existing forest.

Beginning with a lawn plaza, Jangheung Natural Arboretum is constituted of seasonal theme garden, hydrangea garden, alpine plant garden, royal azalea hill and bracken garden observation deck in addition to a variety of things to enjoy such as insect ecology herbal greenhouse and a rabbit village. Herb Pension located below the arboretum is also in operation and it will be a good idea to spend a day close to the nature.

As I take slow steps towards the fountain, which can see from the ticket office, I become mesmerized once by the cool sound of the water and twice by the royal azaleas in full bloom and a red-colored bridge similar to Ojakgyo Bridge. On the way to Ecological Experience road after passing by the royal azalea hill, an atopy treatment room is located with adorable stumps of trees.

I stepped into the treatment room, made of transparent vinyl and strong steel, to enjoy a quick forest bath. Though the overall slope of the arboretum is quite steep, the mountain has not been carved or modified to preserve the nature as it is, and chairs or swings have been installed at places from which a panoramic view may be enjoyed. Listening to the birds' chirping, I stretched my legs while on a swing and slowly tilted my head backwards with a feeling of eased fatigue. A warm sunshine beamed through tall trees that seemingly block the view of the sky and showered onto me.
