Riverside market where people play and dream of making things
We are living in an era where we can find stores open anytime, anywhere. It seemed that the days when we looked forward to going to markets that opened at every five or seven days had gone away forever. However, this market held once a month, only at the Munho-ri area in Yangpyeong, makes people count down to the market day. One of the most popular markets in Korea today is this Munho-ri River Market, which is held on the Bukhangang Riverside.
In 2014, residents of the Munho-ri area first opened the market on the riverbank. At first, there were about 60 sellers, but nowadays, they number close to 200. On the third Saturday of each month, a flag with a yellow chick symbol is erected on the riverside, and sellers set up their tent booths and display goods. People eat, drink and enjoy performances at this market where both sellers and customers can have a happy time. While the tents made with parachutes repeatedly swell and shrink in the wind, children fly kites and dogs run along the riverside.
The market usually starts at ten in the morning and closes at six in the evening. At around the lunch hour, nearby roads are filled with cars coming to the river market. On weekends when the market is not open, you can visit markets modeled on it (Cheorwon DNZ Market, River Market in Yeoju, Munho-ri Chick Market, etc.) in Seoul, Cheorwon, Yangyang, Sokcho, Daegu, and other areas (Refer to the website for more information).
