The year 2018 marks the 1,000th year since Gyeonggi Province was named so (in 1,018 by King Hyeonjong of Goryeo). To celebrate the millennium, the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation has organized the Gyeonggi Millennium Festival as an opportunity to share expectations and hopes for another 1,000 years of the province while offering citizens chances to enjoy the rich cultural heritage of the province together.

To that end, the Gyeonggi Millennium Festival features not only the province’s traditional culture of the past 1,000 years but also its current culture its citizens relish in their everyday lives and its future culture the province will create for the next millennium through a great variety of participatory contents.

Major Programs

1) Performances by Everyday Culture Clubs and the Koryoin Art Troupe

- Date: Oct. 19 (Fri) – 21 (Sun)

- Place: The main stage of the Hill of Meditation and other minor stages in various localities

- Performances by diverse types of everyday culture clubs active around 31 cities and counties of Gyeonggi Province

- Special performances by ethnic Koreans overseas to celebrate the Gyeonggi Millennium

2) Celebratory Performances by Celebrities

- Place: The main stage of the Hill of Meditation

- Singers GB9: 19:40-20:10, October 19 (Fri)

- Singers Jung Dong-ha and Nilo: 20:00-20:30, October 20 (Sat)

- Singers Seenroot: 19:40-20:10, October 21 (Sun)

3) Colloquium on the Gyeonggi Millennium Everyday Culture

- Date & Time: October 20 (Sat) 10:30-13:30

- Place: M3 of Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus

- An opportunity to share citizens’ interest in and build consensus on the everyday culture of Gyeonggi Province

4) Millennium Bapsang

- Date & Time: October 20 (Sat) 14:00-17:00

- Place: Gyeonggi Millennium Path

- A special bapsang (mom’s home cooking) prepared with Gyeonggi local specialties so that all Gyeonggi citizens can sit around the dining table as a family

5) The Theme Hall

- Date: Oct. 19 (Fri) – 21 (Sun)

- Place: Eo-ul Madang

- A special opportunity to meet everyday culture masters discovered throughout the province as hidden treasures

6) The Regional Halls

- Date: Oct. 19 (Fri) – 21 (Sun)

- Place: The East-West Region – Parking Lot 1 / The North-South Region – the lawn

- A space filled with a great variety of things to enjoy including exhibitions, hands-on experience programs and marketplaces from various regions of the province

7) Indie31 x Gyeonggi Millennium

- Date & Time: October 20 (Sat) 19:00-20:00

- Place: The main stage of the Hill of Meditation

- An exciting stage featuring the province’s popular indie musicians including Ye-Ssul, the Streets of Gold, and the HU

8) A Library in the Forest

- Date & Time: Oct. 19 (Fri) – 21 (Sun) / Book Concert: Oct. 20 (Sat) 15:00-17:00

- Place: Sky Garden and the forest near the Hill of Meditation

- A special library where visitors can relax in the forest of Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus and read books including ‘Gyeonggi Great Books 100’ selected by the citizens of Gyeonggi Province

9) Podcast

- Date & Time: October 21 (Sun) 15:00-17:00

- Place: M3 of Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus

- A live broadcast of ‘the Millennium Love’ which will introduce numerous intriguing stories of the Gyeonggi Millennium as the official Gyeonggi Millennium podcast channel.
