An elegant tea shop to refresh the heart
Even a house with a deep history gathers dust and eventually looks like an abandoned one if there is no one to sweep, mop, and take care of it. You can tell at a glance whether a house is managed by a diligent owner who continuously cleans and repairs it. When you enter Moonhyang in Sinbong-dong, Suji, Yongin, you will feel the calm but diligent touch of the owner and employees who take care of the café renovated from a hanok (Korean traditional house). There are cups and glasses neatly arranged on a white cloth at the kitchen entrance, and little ornaments glisten under the light without a speck of dust. Even telling old stories of times past would not sound out of place here. It is the kind of place you would want to visit with an old friend who always listens to you with a smile while sharing old memories together.
The cafe serves ssanghwacha with rich toppings of sliced jujubes and nuts in a small bowl to accompany the tea.
The sliced ginger and sorghum coated rice cakes that are offered together with the tea will enrich your mind, as if at a formal dinner. If you see the employees carefully cutting jujubes one by one on your way into the café, all the cares they put into this warm cup of tea will move your heart. Shaved ice dessert made with freshly prepared red beans is popular among younger people. Small glass bowls are provided for each person to eat the ice dessert, which tells us how considerate the owner is. The employees are all elderly, but their tone is soft and kind.
As a newly built hanok at the time of the cafe's opening in 2007, it has a high ceiling and a wide open, undivided interior.
The tables are separated by fine colored hemp curtains or traditional partitions so that guests can focus on their conversations with company. There is traditional seating and upright seating available, as well as rooms suitable for gatherings.
