The scene of contemporary art, 〈US AND YOU〉

Let me know! GGC (Gyeong Gi Culture) brings together the news of Gyeonggi Province's culture and arts and delivers it to citizens.

On the upcoming Friday, we will quickly inform you of exhibitions, performances, and festivals all over Gyeonggi Province! If you are curious about the culture news that is always close to us, . This radio program is hosted by GyeonGi Cultural Foundation with Gyeongin Broadcasting (90.7MHz).

○ Sungyong Park: This is the time for “Gyeong Gi Culture,” , to quickly deliver the cultural news of Gyeonggi Province. We are together every Friday. Let's meet Reporter Park full of bright energy. Hello. Reporter Park!

▶ Suyoung Park: Hello. This is Suyoung Park, a ‘Culture News Messenger’ that quickly delivers cultural news such as various exhibitions and performances in Gyeonggi-do. May is Mother's Day, Children's Day, and today is Teacher's Day. It seems to be May when we can think about our relationships and our neighbors once more. Today, there is an exhibition that is perfect for this May, so I would like to introduce it.

○ Sungyong Park: What kind of exhibition is this?

▶ Suyoung Park: “We and you” of the Gyeonggi Museum of Art. After meeting through an online exhibition, starting this Tuesday on the 12th, we practiced “distancing in our lives” and carefully reopened.

○ Sungyong Park: Us and you? At first, I understood that there are 'yours' that are a little different from us in the world where ‘we' live, so I felt a little distance, but when I think about it again, ‘we' and ‘you' may refer to a relationship that already has a relationship I guess.

▶ Suyoung Park: That's right. The title of the exhibition varies depending on how you interpret it. It is an exhibition where you can think about how we can live with our neighbors and cooperate with our neighbors in a changing world and how far we are neighbors. Curator Lee Soo-young hopes that the audience will be more open to our neighbors after seeing the exhibition. Let’s listen in detail.

“Actually, we don't get along well with our visible neighbors. She wears a mask and covers her face and expression. However, if you look at this exhibition, the existence that we can think of as you, the people outside of us, has different genders, cultures, languages, or even subtle differences between humans, such as human versus machine, human versus space, or human versus nature. I would like to have a broad perspective and have an open mind toward neighbors.”

▶ Suyoung Park: “We and You” with a total of 13 writers from 5 Asian countries. This exhibition was the one I spent the most time in the exhibition hall while conducting ‘Tell Me GGC', and it was a rich exhibition. From now on, let's find out what kind of exhibition it is with me. First, this is the work of Sam Son Young, based in Hong Kong.

[Work/ Sam Son-young's With the World]

“It is the work of Hong Kong writer Sam Son-young. ... The above Other World is called out like this and whispered. Even though it is the same song, when we change the way we listen to it, the message the song gives is completely different.”

○ Sungyong Park: It makes me think about ‘The World' where we live. In fact, it was gloomy until the release of ‘The Above Other World’. Something scary... Is the original work only sound?

▶ Suyoung Park: No. You can see it in a video. The sound I just heard with the sound removed comes out and the choir is seen there, and it was bizarre because I was watching it. The moment I was shocked and listened to 'We Are the World', I thought a lot about this work.

○ Sungyong Park: Now, we have gone to the “world” beyond the differences in race, gender, and culture. Where is next?

▶ Suyoung Park: I will show you a world where humans and non-humans coexist through technology. It’s ‘My Mechanical Mother' by Jinah Noh. Based on deep learning technology, this is a machine that tries to become a human by imitating the expressions of the audience and talking. I'll listen to it.

[Work/ My mechanical mother of author Jinah Noh]

“Why do you keep following me?” “I think the writer will keep making me more if I do that.” “Through this work, the machine keeps trying to imitate us, so whether it can generate emotions in the machine, through the process of deep learning, or through the process of deep learning, emotions can arise in us, but is this not meaningful?”

▶ Suyoung Park: Actually, ‘my mechanical mother' has the voice and face of the mother of writer Noh Jin-ah. 'Machine Mom' repeats our expressions while having conversations. The reason for following is ‘I think that the author will continue to make me more. ‘ I talked with the face of a person with all eyes, nose, and mouth, but even though I knew it was a machine, I was upset.

○ Sungyong Park: The conversation with a machine in the form of a human and emotions arise in the process is something that we only saw in the movie, and through this exhibition, you can experience and think about it yourself.

▶ Suyoung Park: That's right. In addition to this, there are three artists working in collaboration with Hyun-seon Son, Ji-young Yoon, and Seo-young Jang, who deals with media. Let’s hear from the artist Ji-young Yoon to see if he made it.

“There are three cylinders, and there are structures that come out by 60 degrees, and each one has a projection work, a gradation work, and a sculpture work. I tried to reveal each person's position on the perfection, and I would like to see how the shared thoughts are revealed in their own way, but they share their thoughts together, but focus on how they exposed them.”

▶Suyoung Park: Actually, my appearance on the broadcast is only a small part of Suyoung Park's appearance. The three cylinders were built in a structure that you can't see at a glance, just as you can see only a part of that person when you have a relationship.

○ Sungyong Park: So, you can't see the whole work at a glance?

▶ Suyoung Park: Right. Also, by creating an empty space of 60 degrees for each pillar, we individually worked on each individual's thoughts on that part. The three songs are harmoniously blended by adding lyrics to the spinning songs that appear in each cylinder. You can’t hear this spinning song, right?

[Interview/ Author Jiyoung Yoon]

“In fact, I wish I could feel better. It would be nice to go out while humming the song.”

○ Sungyong Park: The artist himself wrote the lyrics, so if you listen carefully to the lyrics, the characteristics of the artist will be revealed. Today I was able to think about the possibilities of different worlds to form new relationships with different neighbors. I’m very curious about “we and you” at the Gyeonggi Museum of Art. Can I just go see it?

▶ Suyoung Park: No. Currently, in order to distance ourselves from our daily lives, we are conducting a reservation system in advance through the website. I will listen to curator Lee Soo-young for more details.

“We and you will be on display until August 30th. If you come here, you can see a variety of new works, and now through an online reservation system, we are managing the exhibition hall so that 50% and 70% fewer visitors than usual can enjoy a safe and comfortable viewing experience. Make sure to make a reservation online and visit many museums.”

○ Sungyong Park: We limit the number of visitors per hour, we do not conduct group tours with many people, and we are doing our best to keep distance in our daily lives. We ask for your interest.
