Yangju_Gana Art Park
May of you, I, and us
Gana Art Park, located in Jangheung-myeon of Yangju, is a good place to visit in May.
“Gana Children’s Art Museum,” which faces its entrance, currently hosts “Dog Tree of Our House” with the theme of dogs that has been derived from “Gagyedo (家系圖),” meaning “family tree” from which the genealogy of the family members can be seen. It introduces unique interpretations of an ordinary theme of “dogs” by leading artists in each genre of art such as painting, photographs, and three-dimensional art. Artist Yoon Jeong-mi presented photos that contain joyful days of a dog and its owner and Artist Lee Ji-hee used paper to make three-dimensional models of dogs while Artist Noh Seok-mi translated a picture book, titled “I am a Cat,” that she published for the first time this year into an exhibition.
On the first floor of Children’s Art Museum, there is an art shop where Artist Noh’s picture book may be purchased and a café “Owol” in which sculptures that have re-interpreted the works of George Segal. In the underground space, a rubber pool awaits children for an exciting play time while, on the 2nd floor, you may encounter artworks of Andy Warhol and other various artists in addition to the aforementioned “Dog Tree of Our House”.
Blue, Red, and Yellow are the names of different exhibition spaces that display their own unique exhibits. The Blue space hosts a permanent exhibition of drawings, earthenware, engraving, etc. produced by Picasso and the Red space is an exhibition hall independently planned by Gana Art Park where the works of many active modern artists of various genres, including painting, three-dimensional art, design and illustration, can be enjoyed. The most popular space for the children is the Yellow space that features Air Pocket. Air Pocket and Bebop Playground were constructed by an artist named Toshiko MacAdam who also took the advice of experts in playground structure engineering. Inspired by women, Air Pocket is a ride that helps children’s physical activities contributing to their sense of balance and social skill development. The children’s experience hall located on the outskirts of Gana Art Park is constituted of spaces in which kids demonstrate their creativity by producing watches, bags and lights.
As you walk past the wooden horse playground and slowly stroll through the sculpture garden, you can see an outdoor performing stage, which is an open space where diverse culture events are held on the stage with a large screen near a fountain.
