Goyang_Wondang Horse Ranch
Landscape of nature soothing to the eyes Ranch of dashing horses
Between white fences, horses are seen leisurely munching on grass in a green field. Upon seeing this movie-like scenery, it is difficult to believe that there is a city less than 1 km away from here. Wondang Horse Ranch is an education center where the Korea Racing Authority raises race horses and fosters jockeys. Thus, those other than a walking trail are restricted areas but it is still a great place to enjoy a tranquil and elegant landscape during spring and summer when the ranch puts on its green outfit.
Also known as Let’s Run Farm Wondang, Wondang Horse Ranch is the ranch operated by Korea Racing Authority that produced the first race horse, and boasts the longest history in the nation. It was originally built over 110,000-pyeong meadows as an equestrian stadium for 1988 Seoul Olympics that also served as a ranch where race horses are reproduced and grown, and was later changed to an education center at which race horses and their jockeys who compete in actual races train together, allowing a part of the facility to be open to public.
A pastoral scenery of the grass field located close to the city center makes it a great spot for picnics of couples and families, and its panoramic pasture and clear, blue sky present a refreshing frame, which attracts many photographers.
Families accompanying children may participate in horseback riding experiences. However, children taller than 130 cm may participate, and the schedule must be confirmed in advance prior to a visit because it is not available at all times.
