The Fortress and Beacon Fire Station that Have Preserved the Long History

Announced that “Yeoncheon Daejeon-ri Fortress” and “Yongin Seokseongsan Beacon Fire Station” will be designated as cultural properties.



Gyeonggi-do announced that the fortress in Daejeon-ri, Yeoncheon and the Yongin Seokseongsan Beacon Fire Station will be designated as cultural assets. Yeoncheon Daejeon-ri Fortress’ is a fortress located in the military hub of the Three Kingdoms period, and was evaluated as an important relic that can shed light on the patterns of change from the Three Kingdoms period to the Joseon Dynasty among fortresses in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province.

This is a place of great geographic importance, where a long corridor (long and narrow area that can pass through) formed by the Chuaryeong Gujo Valley between Yeoncheon and Yangju continues, and in particular, the fierce battlefield of the 7 Years War fought by the Tang Dynasty during the process of reunification of the Three Kingdoms. It is known as the site of the ‘Battle of Every Second Castle' and has a historical meaning.


‘Yongin Seokseongsan Beacon Fire Station’ is a relic of beacon fire station located on the top of Seokseongsan Mountain in Yongin, and is located on the main Beacon Fire Road that leads to Namsan Mountain(Mokmyeoksan Mountain) in Seoul - Cheonrimsan Mountain in Sungnam - Seokseongsan Mountain in Yongin. In particular, it was recognized for its academic value in that it is the Beacon Fire Station that remains rare in Gyeonggi-do.

In the Beacon Fire Station of Seokseongsan Mountain, a flat site was built on the rocky peak to construct a protective wall, and five smokestacks, which are firearms and chimneys that send signals by raising beacons or smoke, as well as a building site equipped with a warehouse and goodel facilities, were revealed through excavation. In particular, the unique construction method through the excavation of rock mass in Yeonjo 1, the rituals of square, and white porcelain were recognized as important examples of the life and faith of Bongsu-gun.


The designation of ‘Yeoncheon Daejeon-ri Fortress’ and ‘Yongin Seokseongsan Beacon Fire Station’ is finalized by holding the Cultural Properties Committee after a month's notice. Jungsik Lee, head of the cultural heritage section of Gyeonggi Province, said, “The newly discovered and designated cultural heritage is significant in that it is a fierce historical site of the Three Kingdoms Reunification War and the rare remains of Bongsu.” We will increase the utilization of the cultural heritage so that the citizens of Gyeonggi Province can share and empathize with it.”
