GyeongGi Cultural Foundation

Helps overcome the crisis in the culture and art sector!

Let me know! GGC (Gyeong Gi Culture) brings together the news of Gyeonggi Province's culture and arts and delivers it to citizens.

On the upcoming Friday, we will quickly inform you of exhibitions, performances, and festivals all over Gyeonggi Province! If you are curious about the culture news that is always close to us, . This radio program is hosted by GyeonGi Cultural Foundation with Gyeongin Broadcasting (90.7MHz).

○ Sungyong Park: This is the time for “Gyeong Gi Culture,” , to quickly deliver the cultural news of Gyeonggi Province. We are together every Friday. Let's meet Reporter Park full of bright energy. Hello. Reporter Park!

▶ Suyoung Park: Hello. This is Suyoung Park, a ‘Culture News Messenger’ that quickly delivers cultural news such as various exhibitions and performances in Gyeonggi-do. Many people are having a hard time these days. The damage to culture and arts is also terrifying. As 92% of cultural facilities such as museums and art galleries in Tokyo are closed, and most of the related programs are suspended, many artists are struggling to make a living.

○ Sungyong Park: When I saw the news a few days ago, most of the events were canceled or postponed, and there were many people who earned '0 won for 3 months'.

▶ Suyoung Park: That's right. According to the Korean Art Museum, there have been 2,500 art events that have been canceled and postponed nationwide due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and the damage is estimated to be about 52.4 billion won. Actually, it will do much more damage than this.

○ Sungyong Park: Wow, the damage is enormous. I think something needs to be done, is there any way?

▶ Suyoung Park: Yes. An urgently prepared project for artists! It’s ‘Gyeonggi-do-style Cultural New Deal Project'. Gyeonggi-do supports the field of culture and art tourism in cooperation with five organizations including GyeonGi Cultural Foundation, GyeongGi Art Center, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, Korea Ceramic Foundation, and Gyeonggi Contents Promotion Agency. I'll listen to the GyeonGi Cultural Foundation's team leader Cho Byeong-taek about what kind of support is available.

[Interview/ GyeonGi Cultural Foundation Team Leader Cho Byeong-taek]

“The Gyeonggi-do Cultural New Deal Project is a project to help cultural artists and related industries even a little during difficult times from African swine fever that occurred last year to today's COVID-19. This project is largely divided into three areas: ▲ Urgent activity support ▲ Vulnerable workers protection ▲ The total amount of support is KRW 10.3 billion through reductions in rent and usage fees for groups in public facilities.”

○ Sungyong Park: Do you think that you are applying 10.3 billion won to “emergency activity support, protection of vulnerable workers, reduction of rent and usage fees for public facilities”?

▶ Suyoung Park: Yes, from now on, let’s find out what kind of support they are. First, it is ‘emergency activity support'. It plans to support 1500 people and 1046 organizations through 10 projects. In particular, the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation is striving to provide practical help in the name of the “Art Vaccine Project” by bundling five of these projects.

[Interview/ GyeonGi Cultural Foundation Team Leader Cho Byeong-taek]

“The GyeonGi Cultural Foundation has created an emergency budget of 5 billion won for the culture and arts community in Tokyo, which is at risk from COVID-19. To this end, a separate TF team was established and is in full swing. We are preparing to provide effective help in the shortest possible time by simplifying the administrative process. Specifically, ▲ a miracle of 1 million won ▲ Driving Theater ▲ Urgent purchase of works for full-time artists ▲ Support for creating video contents for artists ▲ We are promoting a public art support project for artists' associations to revitalize a sustainable art ecosystem.”

▶ Suyoung Park: The recruitment ended yesterday for the “Miracle of Million Won,” which gives priority to 1 million won for selection and provides an additional 1 million won for submission of the results after activities to overcome Corona 19. Starting with this project, specific plans and announcements for other projects will be released soon. Related information can be found on the GyeonGi Cultural Foundation website.

○ Sungyong Park: A total of 10.3 billion won, and the scale of support is very large. Of these, the Cultural Foundation has raised 5 billion won. Incredible.

▶ Suyoung Park: I was surprised to find that it was more urgent than ever for artists, so I tried to increase the funding by utilizing not only the business budget but also the basic assets of GyeonGi Cultural Foundation of 2 billion won for this emergency support of COVID-19. It is said to have happened for the first time since its foundation.

○ Sungyong Park: It seems that the situation is so serious. It seems that you are putting in a lot of effort to simplify the administrative procedure, proceed quickly, and reduce the pain of artists. Where can I check the announcement?

▶ Suyoung Park: You can refer to the GyeonGi Cultural Foundation website for various support projects for the'COVID-19 Art Vaccine Project'. It is said that the businesses will be shared with the local people through the GyeonGi Cultural Foundation online content platform 'GGC'. Even if you are not engaged in culture and arts in Gyeonggi-do, I would like you to pay attention.

○ Sungyong Park: Yes, then shall we talk about ‘protecting vulnerable workers’? What kinds of applications are there?

▶ Suyoung Park: It is planned to support 500 groups of 913 people through 7 projects, and it provides support to preserve income and maintain activities for art instructors, film workers, craftsmen, and indie musicians who have stopped their activities. . Of the seven projects, this time, I will ask Lee Chae-suk, manager of the Gyeonggi Content Agency, about the “Indie Musician Online Performance Support” project.

[Interview/ Manager Lee Chae-Seok, Gyeonggi Content Agency]

“The Promotion Agency is running an online busking performance support project called 'Any Performance' to support young artists in Gyeonggi-do. The performance is broadcast through YouTube in real time through live streaming. This will give musicians the opportunity to promote themselves as well as performance opportunities. A total of 200 teams will be selected from the musicians who have been submitted and will be performing at the GyeongGi Art Center in Suwon from May 22nd to May 25th. You can prepare one song within 5 minutes per team, and we will pay 500,000 won per team to the musicians who participated in the performance.”

▶ Suyoung Park: In the current situation where performance opportunities are reduced, they promote while performing and receive an appearance fee. It is being recruited until May 10th, and you can check it on the website of the Gyeonggi Content Agency. In addition, the application for ‘2020 Indistants’ is also being recruited until May 15th.

[Interview/ Manager Lee Chae-seok]

“Currently, the Gyeonggi Contents Agency is accepting submissions for '2020 Indistance', an audition program for discovering talented musicians, until May 15th. Indistants can support overlapping with ‘Any Performance'. You can apply even if you are not a Gyeonggi-do citizen. You can also check the details of support for Indistance on the Gyeonggi Contents Agency and The Icon TV homepage.”

○ Sungyong Park: After hearing various support projects from Gyeonggi Contents Agency and GyeonGi Cultural Foundation, I am curious about what other organizations of the “Gyeonggi Province Cultural New Deal Project” provide.

▶ Suyoung Park: Let me introduce you a little. From May 11 to 24, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization runs the ‘Good Travel Campaign', which sells admission tickets to tourist facilities in Tokyo at a 70% discount, where sales declined sharply due to COVID-19, and GyeongGi Art Center performs to artists. We operate ‘Bangkok, Gyeonggi Art Broadcasting Station' that supports live broadcasts. In addition, the Korea Ceramic Foundation provides special guarantees to help potters in Tokyo. The applications I introduced today are part of the “Gyeonggi-do Cultural New Deal Project”. For more information, please refer to the website of each institution.

○ Sungyong Park: Then, finally, ‘reduction of rent and usage fee for public facilities tenants' remains. As soon as I hear it, I think I know what it is.

▶ Suyoung Park: It's pretty. It is a project to reduce rental and usage fees for 186 companies that are located in public facilities such as Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub and Gyeonggi Sang Sang Campus. I'll hear directly from Oh Kyung-taek, one of the public facilities tenant companies, if rent reduction is practically helpful.

[Interview/ Gyeongtaek Oh, a company occupying public facilities]

“During the Corona 19 period, consumers' consumption contracted, resulting in a drop in sales, and monthly rental fees were burdensome. No matter how much we work from home, we can't pay rent for renting an office. It was burdensome to keep paying these rents, and having a business that supports these rents will help the company become competitive.”

○ Sungyong Park: That's right. Even if I don't use the office because of social distancing, the rent keeps going. There is no income, and it will be of great help to companies that are living in public facilities in difficult situations.

▶ Suyoung Park: Looking at the business details introduced today, can't you feel the specialness of the “Gyeonggi-do-style Cultural New Deal Project”? It is not a simple hand-out support centered on realistic supports, but a customized business that focuses on securing competitiveness for artists themselves. We will finish by listening to the special features of this project from Team Leader Cho Byeong-taek.

[Interview/ Team Leader Cho Byeong-taek]

“The special feature of this project is not simply a sharing approach, but a support for securing competitiveness and overcoming the crisis to maintain the ecosystem, which leads to the public cultural and artistic activities of artists and creates a cultural discourse on the COVID-19 situation. Will be me. I think COVID-19 has advanced our society five to ten years ahead of the new future factor of non-contact and non-contact.”

▶ Sungyong Park: I hope that we will be able to better understand the impact of the special situation of COVID-19 on the culture and art world, so that practical support will be provided and we will be able to overcome this crisis well. There are many applications currently being recruited and scheduled for recruitment. Please apply well in the field that suits you.
