▶ Suyoung Park: Hello. This is Suyoung Park, a ‘Culture News Messenger’ that quickly delivers cultural news such as various exhibitions and performances in Gyeonggi-do. Today, I went directly to the site because there was a resident-led public art project to revitalize the local economy.
○ Sungyong Park: I'm looking forward to it more because the residents have led it. Which project is it?
▶ Suyoung Park: Dongducheon City and GyeonGi Cultural Foundation met to make Dongducheon City the center of the northern Gyeonggi Cultural City. The meeting between the two continues from 2015. Detailed story I will hear from Curator Ki-Young Choi, Regional Culture Team, and GyeonGi Cultural Foundation.

“GyeonGi Cultural Foundation and Dongducheon City first met as a public art project in 2015. In 2015, the number of works increased by painting graffiti art in an effective space or abandoned building, and in 2019 a special relationship was created. GyeonGi Cultural Foundation signed an MOU to expand public art through consulting and concept in order to grow Dongducheon City into a cultural center in northern Gyeonggi Province, and it has been continuing so far. This year, through one big project called Dongducheon World Food Street, we have come so far with the intent to create a cultural space where people can see, feel and eat.”

○ Sungyong Park: Starting with the “Public Art Project” in 2015, we have been promoting various cultural projects for five years, and this year in 2020, we are working on a project called “Dongducheon World Food Street”. What kind of project is ‘Dongducheon World Food Street'?
▶ Suyoung Park: It is designed to create a unique street that takes advantage of the unique cultural characteristics of Bosan-dong's Special Foreign Tourism Zone and to build tourism resources. You can see a variety of world foods including Korean food, and there are currently 12 food stores in 8 countries. For more details, I'll hear from Jin-young Song, Team Leader, Strategy and Policy Team, Dongducheon City.

“There weren't many stores, but sometimes it was nice to come out and see if I was bored.”
“The chicken sandwich was really good."
“I was scared because there were many foreigners in the evening, but it got better.”
○ Sungyong Park: The children are so cute.
▶ Suyoung Park: I asked because there were children playing around, but it was so cute that I couldn't put it.
○ Sungyong Park: By the way, what do you mean when you say ‘I was scared because there were many foreigners in the evening, but I got better'?
▶ Suyoung Park: In fact, it is said that Bosan-dong used to be dark and a place with strong negative perceptions that were difficult to access. However, it is said that the atmosphere has changed dramatically with this World Food Street. It only takes 4 hours to make the sauce, and I will listen in detail from CEO Yoo Yoon-jae, who makes and sells Tteokbokki with good ingredients.

“I think the best thing about this (World Food Street) was that it wasn't recognized before. The atmosphere is brighter than before in a dark atmosphere. I have a lot of that feeling, and the people around me and customers talk a lot like that. Particularly good is eating outside at the bottom of the station, so I don't have to worry about rain or rain.”
○ Sungyong Park: As people gather, the atmosphere seems to have become very bright.
▶ Suyoung Park: Yes, not only Dongducheon, but also people from nearby Yangju, Uijeongbu, and Yeoncheon come to visit, so it is crowded with people on Fridays and Saturdays.
○ Sungyong Park: If it goes like this, the economy will be activated, and the day when Dongducheon City will become a cultural center in the north of Gyeonggi is not far away. But what do you mean, ‘because it's under history, I don't have to worry about it raining even if it rains'?
▶ Suyoung Park: It is an open space with a table under the railroad pier that crosses Bosan Station. They buy food at an open, house-shaped food store, and eat freely on a table under the pier or on a mat. On Fridays and Saturdays, busking is also together, so even if it rains or it's hot, your family and couple can have a good time.
○ Sungyong Park: I really like it. However, you said earlier this “Dongducheon Campbosan World Food Street” was led by the residents.
▶ Suyoung Park: That's right. This Dongducheon Public Art Project was more meaningful by directly reflecting the “residents' opinion”. Thanks to the active participation of the residents, it is said that the current World Foot Street has emerged. Detailed story I'll hear from Curator Ki-Young Choi, GyeonGi Cultural Foundation.

“The most important thing I thought was to reflect the opinions of local residents. We held public hearings with local residents five times, and the local residents suggested one by one. At first, it was a simple snack food, but one of the regional characteristics of Dongducheon is that there are various food menus because various people from all over the world live together, so the word ‘World Food Street' came up because I wanted to show them to many people. It was.”
○ Sungyong Park: Seeing that we had public hearings with the residents over 5 times, everyone must have been positive.
▶ Suyoung Park: That's right. Both Dongducheon City and GyeonGi Cultural Foundation emphasized ‘win-win’ in this project and listened to the stories of residents. It is said that there was active participation of residents in the whole process from concept to food store entry. Because of these efforts, the reaction to “Dongducheon Campbosan World Food Street” seems to be hot even in a difficult situation due to the corona crisis.
○ Sungyong Park: Right. Then, starting with this public project, are various activities continuing?
▶ Suyoung Park: Yes, it is. In addition to this project, there is the <Dongducheon Campbosan Graffiti Art> project, which invites domestic and foreign artists to leave works in shopping centers and public buildings. Through the <Camp Bosan Special Street Creation> project, which is a street environment improvement project, it is said that the ‘media wall public art project to be installed on the outdoor stage' and ‘the alleyway decoration project' are being carried out. It would be nice if you can look forward to new changes.

“The GyeonGi Cultural Foundation is a plan to make the northern part of Gyeonggi-do into a cultural city with Dongducheon and the biggest assignment. The biggest feature is to make this cultural city not simply to create and decorate space, but to create things that can coexist together. That is why the GyeonGi Cultural Foundation and Dongducheon City are working together to make the city itself a cultural space by creating a single city-wide platform from the returning US military site owned by Dongducheon City to effective spaces with near-modern historical value and public facilities. .”
○ Sungyong Park: I hope that the Bosan-dong, Dongducheon Special Tourist Zone for foreigners will become a symbolic street representing a cultural space where diverse races and cultures coexist.
