Singing Youth

Let me know! GGC (Gyeong Gi Culture) brings together the news of Gyeonggi Province's culture and arts and delivers it to citizens.

On the upcoming Friday, we will quickly inform you of exhibitions, performances, and festivals all over Gyeonggi Province! If you are curious about the culture news that is always close to us, . This radio program is hosted by GyeonGi Cultural Foundation with Gyeongin Broadcasting (90.7MHz).

○ Sungyong Park: This is the time for ‘Gyeong Gi Culture' <Tell Me~ GGC>, which quickly conveys the cultural news of Gyeonggi Province. We are together every Friday. Let's meet Reporter Park full of bright energy. Hello. Reporter Park!

▶ Suyoung Park: Hello. This is Suyoung Park, a ‘Culture News Messenger’ that quickly delivers cultural news such as various exhibitions and performances in Gyeonggi-do. There must be many people who are tired of the prolonged COVID-19. In this case, it would be nice to be comforted by cultural life.

○ Sungyong Park: Sure. I'm also getting comforted every Friday. So what's the news today?

▶ Suyoung Park: It is a sympathy performance for the residents of the city in 2020, “Singing Youth,” with Gyeonggi Province and the GyeonGi Cultural Foundation. For more details about the performance, I'll listen to Eun-ok Lim, team leader of Sangsang Campus, GyeonGi Cultural Foundation.

“It's a project hosted by Gyeonggi Province and the GyeonGi Cultural Foundation, which sings the youth of the residents' sympathy performance. It is a business that promotes all genres of busking performances in places where the audience can easily access. At the beginning of the year, a total of 60 teams were selected. These 60 teams are promoting performances on streets or multi-use facilities in 31 cities and counties. This project is the first project this year to expand the field of activity of young artists working in Gyeonggi Province and support the growth of amateur performing artists.”

○ Sungyong Park: A team of 60 artists working in Gyeonggi-do tour 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do to perform. It means that you can enjoy performances in your daily life, but because of COVID-19, the schedule will be a little uncertain?

▶ Suyoung Park: Right. In the future, I think I will have to make a schedule while looking at the situation. Previously, various types of performances were held, not only indoors but also outdoors, such as museums, art galleries, markets, and plazas.

○ Sungyong Park: If progress proceeds, culture and art can become closer to our daily lives. How has it progressed in the meantime?

▶ Suyoung Park: In one place, 4 teams perform around 30 minutes per team. At this time, the genre of performance is as diverse as the venue. I will continue to listen to team leader Eun-ok Lim about the specialness of ‘Singing Youth’.

“For our project, 60 teams of artists from Gyeonggi Province were selected. Originally, the existing projects were performed in the region, but since we are a project for Gyeonggi-do, artists from Suwon go to Yongin and Goyang. So, I think that being able to experience various experiences is also an advantage. We have established a separate cafe and network between artists is also established. Another special thing is that we are broadcasting the current status of the performance in real time. The special thing is that you can see the realism of the performance online.”

▶ Suyoung Park: One of the special features of this project is that it recruited artists from Gyeonggi Province. For example, an artist based in one region finds it difficult to get an opportunity to present a performance in another region. It was more difficult because there were many conditions that only local artists could apply. However, the satisfaction of those who participated in this project was very high because all artists in Tokyo can apply.

○ Sungyong Park: Right. I wish it would be a business that satisfies both Domin and artists. This ‘Singing Youth’ seems very special. How many performances do you have in total with the 60 selected teams?

▶ Suyoung Park: This project, which started in June, aims to perform a total of 240 performances, with 4 teams running for 30 minutes each. I have listened in detail to singer-songwriter Merikobalt Kim Hyun-ji, who performed at the Youngeun Museum of Art.

“I've lived in Gyeonggi Province for a long time, but just because I'm a Gyeonggi-do citizen doesn't mean I know all of Gyeonggi Province. But while doing this business, I traveled around Gyeonggi Province to perform performances, so there are places like this, there are places like that, and I know a lot of good places. In particular, the Youngeun Museum of Art in Gwangju, where I performed last week, was so beautiful that I thought that I should come next time. Unlike other businesses, I think it's a good idea to go around Gyeonggi Province and perform Gyeonggi-do artists.”

○ Sungyong Park: Wasn't it introduced in the last time at Youngeun Museum of Art? Back then, reporter Suyoung Park said the surrounding landscape was very beautiful.

▶ Suyoung Park: That's right. Artists are also very fond of this “Singing Youth” business, where they travel around Gyeonggi Province and perform.

○ Sungyong Park: By the way, it was said that live broadcasts were conducted online. Was the performance conducted online that day?

▶ Suyoung Park: Sure. It was broadcast live in real time, so I tried to capture the scene vividly. As this project follows the government's social distancing guidelines, the safety of the citizens is a top priority, so these days, we have been focusing a little more on online live broadcasting.

○ Sungyong Park: It is good to communicate with local residents offline, but online communication is also open to more people because there are no restrictions on places. How are people's reactions to the live broadcast?

▶ Suyoung Park: I was curious about that part, so I listened to the artist directly. This is Siesta Trio pianist Sung Jeong-hwa.

“You are shooting with specialized equipment. We didn't shoot personally, so he said that the acoustics, full shots of the performers, and so on were good to see. In addition, there is not enough time due to poor conditions, or a house with infants and young children who cannot go because of the corona, or the elderly people said that they enjoyed watching it at home through video.”

○ Sungyong Park: From an artist's point of view, it's good that all of these performances remain record.

▶ Suyoung Park: Yes, I usually try to shoot a video personally, but he said it was good that I didn't have to do that this time. Also, according to the artist's words, the father-in-law and mother-in-law, who were frustrated with COVID-19, had a live performance at home with their children and they loved it.

○ Sungyong Park: Really? But if I miss the live video, can I watch it again after the performance is over?

▶ Suyoung Park: You can watch it again. If you go to the YouTube channel of Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus, you can watch the performances again. Let’s take a peek at the Siesta Trio performance to see what kind of performances there are.

○ Sungyong Park: There must be a lot of people who are frustrated with the time spent at home these days. This weekend, it would be nice to spend time with the performance, “Singing the youth”.

▶ Suyoung Park: That's right. Your interest is also a strength to the artist. We ask for your interest. Lastly, I will finish by listening to the plans for the future from team leader Eun-ok Lim.

[Interview/ GyeonGi Cultural Foundation, Sangsang Campus, Lim Eun-ok]

“In consideration of the current Prime Minister situation, we are trying to proceed with the business by observing the safety guidelines for social distancing as much as possible. So, we plan to strengthen online rather than offline. We plan to broadcast live video in real time accordingly so that residents can enjoy it comfortably regardless of location. You can subscribe to our video through the Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus YouTube channel. In the future, I ask for a lot of support from the artists and look forward to seeing them.”

▶ Suyoung Park: You can check the detailed performance schedule on the Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus website. Also, as a special event, if you participate in the “Singing Youth” Busking Performance Satisfaction Survey and upload the reviews on SNS along with tags, various gifticons are presented.
