○ Sungyong Park: This is the time for “Gyeong Gi Culture,” <Tell Me~ GGC>, to quickly deliver the cultural news of Gyeonggi Province. We are together every Friday. Let's meet Reporter Park full of bright energy. Hello. Reporter Park!

▶ Suyoung Park: Hello. This is Suyoung Park, a ‘Culture News Messenger’ that quickly delivers cultural news such as various exhibitions and performances in Gyeonggi-do. It's Friday before the weekend. What are you going to spend doing this weekend?

○ Sungyong Park: I want to stay at home if possible with COVID-19. Lately, with a smartphone, the weekend is passing by watching videos of this and that.

▶ Suyoung Park: That's right. An hour or two pass by while on a cell phone. In particular, as there are more non-face-to-face performances and exhibitions these days, various cultural life is possible at home.

○ Sungyong Park: Right. There are so many good performances and exhibitions, so there are so many videos I've liked. I think the era of viewing exhibitions online has come.

▶ Suyoung Park: That's right. However, when talking about this ‘online exhibition', ‘Suwon I-Park Museum of Art' cannot be left out. We operate various social media channels, among them, focusing on video and comforting citizens who have reduced face-to-face exhibitions and performances due to COVID-19. Let’s listen in detail from Team Leader Ki-Seok Lee.

“As COVID-19 has limited access to museums, we are focusing on publicity through videos. For example, on our YouTube channel, there is a video in which the curator who planned the exhibition directly introduces the exhibition. Baek Young-soo's exhibition is being held, and there is a video in which the curator walks through the exhibition hall and introduces each piece to the viewers. And in order to see the exhibition space in three dimensions, there is a content that is recorded as a video so that you can see all the characteristics of our exhibition space using a 360-degree camera. And especially, we are continuing to open educational programs related to exhibitions.”

▶ Suyoung Park: Various videos such as ‘Exhibition Unboxing', where the curator directly explains the exhibitions one by one, along with the introduction videos of various exhibitions at the Suwon Museum of Art, and ‘At the Museum of Art' dealing with education, events, events, etc. became.

○ Sungyong Park: Right. By the way, among the videos that the curator introduced to the exhibition, is the “Baek Young-soo exhibition” currently in progress?

▶ Suyoung Park: Yes, the late artist Young-Soo Baek’s “Walk in a Hundred Years: Young-Soo Baek 1922~2018” has been reopened on Tuesday the 7th and can be seen offline. I will listen to the curator Jangdan in detail about what kind of exhibition.

“The Suwon I-Park Museum of Art is holding the first special exhibition of the year ⟪Walking 100 Years: Youngsoo Baek 1922~2018⟫ from May 12th to August 9th, 2020. This exhibition is a large-scale retrospective exhibition held for the first time since the death of the artist Baek Young-soo in 2018. In a total of three exhibition rooms, you can see 105 paintings, drawings, and archive materials left by Baek Young-soo for over 100 years.”

▶ Suyoung Park: As a Suwon-born artist, I worked with Kim Whan-ki, Lee Joong-seop, Yoo Young-guk, Lee Gyu-sang, and Jang Wook-jin as a group that unfolded abstract art for the first time after liberation. It is said that he devoted himself to creation throughout his life, building a unique world of lyrical and independent works. I watched the curator's exhibition explanation video, which takes about 9 minutes to walk around the life of the artist and the world of work, and I wanted to see these works in person.

○ Sungyong Park: I'm also curious about it. I'm curious about what kind of person he was, so I'll have to look for a video later.

▶ Suyoung Park: Still, you might be curious about the artist, so I brought a special story that could not be seen in the exhibition introduction video. This is the image of the artist remembered by the late Kim Myung-ae, director of the Paik Young-soo Museum of Art. Let’s hear what kind of person you remember.

“The little things you see are used to make the work. Even very trivial. When you see that, you have special eyes. Humanly, I'm not a very attractive person, but when I see the way I create or see ideas, I am so surprised that none of that person's bad things look bad.”

○ Sungyong Park: I can feel love even though I heard about it for a moment, ‘I didn’t see any bad things as bad because I was so amazing how I was creating. ‘ But it was said that not only this exhibition, but also the Suwon Museum of Art is making various online videos. Even the curator who introduces the exhibition seems to have been the first time to meet the public online. Did you have any difficulties?

▶ Suyoung Park: It's my first time, so I was nervous and awkward. I heard from the curator Jangdan what was different from offline and what was difficult.

[Interview/ Curator]

“Because this is our first video shoot, it’s very embarrassing, and when we give an exhibition commentary, because there are visitors in front of them, it’s their reaction. Unlike the explanation while exchanging questions in real time, I have to talk alone in front of the camera. It was awkward because I couldn't see the reaction of what part would you be curious about or what part would be interesting. But through the video, I tried my best to shoot, thinking that people who are having trouble going out could have a moment of comfort or relaxation.”

○ Sungyong Park: There are such difficulties. It would be nice to be able to communicate in real time if you broadcast live. Is there any live online broadcast?

▶ Suyoung Park: Yes. As part of this exhibition-related program, on June 29th, there was an online live broadcast, where you can enjoy art works and classical performances together under the name of ‘Baek Young-soo met by cellist Moon Tae-guk. ‘ Communicate in real time and listen to curators' explanations! As it was a new attempt, there were many worries, but the reaction was very hot. I will hear from Team Leader Ki-Seok Lee how it was.

[Interview/ Team Leader Ki-Seok Lee]

“Mr. Moon Tae-guk is a world-renowned cellist and ambassador for Suwon City. In particular, this performance was a special program prepared by our Suwon Museum of Art for the non-face-to-face viewing era. It was a new attempt, so I couldn't relax from the preparation process to the moment the live broadcast was over. Still, I was surprised by the explosive reaction.”

○ Sungyong Park: Art works and classical performances! So good. Anything like this exhibition-related program is always welcome. Could you ever watch this live broadcast again?

▶ Suyoung Park: Yes, the current Suwon Museum of Art ‘Baek Young-Soo Meets Cellist Moon Tae-guk' can be viewed on Naver TV at the Suwon Museum of Art.

○ Sungyong Park: The reaction was very good this time, but it would be nice if this kind of performance does not end as a one-time event and continues next time.

▶ Suyoung Park: It is said that at the end of the year, we plan to prepare an online concert together in the museum, just like Moon Tae-guk's performance, so that you can easily experience art at home. Suwon Museum of Art is doing its best to reach the public both online and offline. We will end with the story of team leader Ki-Seok Lee asking for a lot of attention.

※ On June 29 (Mon), the video of the live online performance of <Bak Young-Soo Meets Cellist Moon Tae-guk> You can meet again at ‘Suwon Museum of Art, Naver TV'.

[Interview/ Team Leader Ki-Seok Lee]

“Now online, there is a video of ‘Baek Young-Soo's Walk Through the Hundred Years'. This exhibition is a great opportunity to see artist Youngsoo Baek's work spanning 100 years. I hope you can enjoy the good works of Youngsoo Baek through online. Our Suwon Museum of Art will continue to show interesting online programs. It would be nice if you could easily enjoy your work on your phone at home or on your way to work.”

○ Sungyong Park: I hope that through this exhibition, Youngsoo Baek and his unique creative world can be known to many people.

▶ Suyoung Park: The Suwon Museum of Art, which reopened on July 7th, “Walk in a Hundred Years: Baek Young-soo 1922~2018,” is available after reservation through the website, and the number of visitors by time is limited. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is only for Suwon citizens, so please refer to the use. For more information, please refer to the Suwon Museum of Art website.
